Damous Darnell Nettles, sometimes known as Donnie to older generation family members was born on October 19, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, to his proud parents Damous B. Nettles and Dolores Pace Nettles (Walker), who both predeceased him in death. His parents raised him under the Church of God in Christ all his life.
Damous was raised in Venice, California, until he was 8 years old and then the family moved to Los Angeles, California, where his father, Damous B. Nettles passed away in 1966. After his father passed, he was raised by his mother, Dolores Nettles Walker, until her passing in 2007.
Damous married LaTanya Nettles in 1993, who preceded him in death on September 18, 2011. LaTanya had two children from a previous relationship, and he helped raise them into adulthood. One daughter La'Toya Yizer and one son James Lozier.
Damous attended Washington High School in Los Angeles, California, and graduated in 1974. He attended Bethel Church of God in Christ in Venice, California, as a child and accepted Jesus as his personal savior. As a teenager he attended Philadelphia Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, in Compton, California, and he and his brothers played the bongos for the church. He studied law and had a great aptitude in his law studies and actually helped others pursue their defenses as an advisor on the cases. He was very smart and persistent young man.
Damous loved children. Damous touched the lives of all his family and many, many friends. He always made special efforts to help whenever he could. He was an avid telephone talker and talked to everybody he knew all the time. He will be missed and loved by all who knew him.
Damous leaves to cherish his memory, his sister Michelle Nettles Miller (Wilbert), brothers Gary L. Nettles and Jerry L. Nettles (Coral), his baby sister Dora Lisan Ross (Elliot) affectionally known as "Felish" by all her brothers. Stepbrothers Phillip Walker (Tracy), William Walker (known as Billy Boy) (Francine), Clara Lee Walker Neal and Deborah Walker Layne (Denis). His stepchildren La'Toya Yizer and James Lozier. Damous had a special and close relationship with his cousins Gregory Taylor, Morning Star (Alicia) Pace, Delores Nettles Raynor (Cliff), Everett Nettles Jr. He leaves 3 aunts (Allie B. Riser, Bennie Lee Nettles and Charlene Nettles), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
