Dr. Federico Lingbaoan Maledda

Dr. Federico L. Maledda (Pedring), 80, of Azusa, CA, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019, after battling cancer.

The funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at White’s Funeral Home in Azusa, CA. The Visitation will also be held at this facility at 5pm on Friday, October 25, 2019. Cremation has been scheduled for Monday, October 28, 2019.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by White’s Funeral Home.

Federico was born in Macaoayan, Burgos, Ilocos Sur (Philippines) on August 1, 1939. He graduated as Valedictorian from Santa Maria Agricultural College, and continued to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines.

Federico was married to Susana Sison on October 17, 1967; they were married 51 years.

Federico started with the B-Meg Provincial Extension Service Department for the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) in 1963, and worked for SMC for 20 years. He participated in the Arbor Acres Poultry Production Management courses held in Connecticut, which led to his assignment to manage the Santo Tomas, Batangas Poultry farm in 1979. Before migrating to the Unites States, he took a job to manage a poultry farm in Dubai. In addition, he had his own veterinary practice in Novaliches, Quezon City, where he and his family resided from 1976 to 1985. 

When Federico and his family moved to California in 1985, his employment included a local veterinary clinic, CA Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (focused on prevention of cruelty to animals), UCLA and Baxter Pharmaceuticals. 

He enjoyed playing volleyball (college years), fishing, growing dragon fruit, reading and watching TV – news, sports, Filipino shows, and having regular phones calls with friends.  He was also actively involved in the Philippines Society of Animal Science, Philippines Veterinary Medical Association, Philippines Veterinary Practitioners Association, Upland Municipalities of Ilocos Sur, U.S.A. (UMISA), and Burgosinians of Ilocos Sur Global Organization (BISGO).

Federico is survived by his wife Susan, children – Fe, Marco, Marcos, Tina; Sheryl and Alfredo, grandchildren – Aleena, Isaac, Martee, Megan, and Macky, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.  His special pets are Skye, Nawa and Kidlat.

Federico is preceded in death by his parents, Quirino Banawan Maledda and Praxedes Lingbaoan, brother Alfredo Maledda, and sister Josefina Devadeb.
