Tribute

JOAN LAMBERTI

Oct. 1928 – Nov. 2018

A California native was lost to us all after 90 years of life. Joan had a lifelong love of spending time with her family, golfing, gardening, and offering her time to multiple Catholic charitable groups. She graduated from El Camino College in 1950 and while working at McCulloch Corp. she met her future husband, Bert. They married in 1952 and had three children, Catherine, Lynda, and Michael, while living in Rolling Hills Estates. After Bert completed his PhD in Business from USC, he was hired by Studebaker but this meant moving to South Bend, IN. While USC was their first love, they became honorary Notre Dame fans also! Four years later they moved to Greenwich, CT where she continued to raise the three children and be involved in all their activities. After five years on the east coast, the family returned to a new home in Pasadena in 1969. The children attended the Mayfield Schools in Pasadena, and all attended USC. Bert and Joan were two of the greatest USC fans, attending Trojan football games with their family and friends every year and hosting many tailgate gatherings. She enjoyed many of the pleasures of the beaches, deserts, and mountains of southern California, including many years golfing with friends at Annandale Golf Club in Pasadena, Glendora C.C., Lake Arrowhead C.C., and Ironwood C.C. in Palm Desert. Joan and Bert spent many yearsvacationing in their homes in Blue Jay and Palm Desert where Joan would look forward to hosting family and friends on weekend visits. In Pasadena is where Joan began a lifelong love of volunteering for others. Her Catholic faith instilled a deep commitment to service and charitable work. She became a member of the Mayfield Board of Trustees and was Mother’s Club president. Since the 70’s she was involved with the Sisters of Social Service, and served as Auxiliary President in 1979 and Presentation Ball chairperson in 1982. Joan was also a member of the Christ Child Society. She became a Lady of the Holy Sepulchre in 1984, a Dame of Malta in 1991, and was honored to be appointed to the Order of St. Gregory in 2008. Joan was an elegant woman with taste and poise. As a great entertainer and planner, she was chairperson of numerous events, including the Cardinal’s Awards, the Knights of Malta Investiture dinner, and was a part of the Special Gifts Committee for the Cathedral of Los Angeles. Joan and Bert also traveled around the world, including pilgrimages to the Holy Land and Lourdes. Joan’s life became even richer and more fulfilled with the marriages of her three children and the arrival of her three grandchildren: Jonathan, Philip, and Nicole. She showered them with love and was everything you could wish for in a grandmother. Her greatgranddaughter Molly Marie arrived just five months ago. The world is poorer for her loss, but so much richer for her life of family and faith that brought joy and love to so many. Vigil service with rosary 6 p.m., Nov 26th. Funeral mass at 10 a.m., Nov 27th, both at St Dorothy’s Catholic Church. 241 S. Valley Center Ave, Glendora, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Social Service, 4316 Lanai Rd, Encino, CA 9143
