Mary Skates  August 18,1942-November 25,2021

Mary Elaine (Johnson) Skates was born in Sioux City, Iowa the
oldest of six children born to Donald Eugene Johnson
and Katherine Elaine (Wright) Johnson, she grew up in Iowa and
Southern California where the family relocated in 1954.
She attended Wilson Junior High School in Glendora, then
graduated from Pomona Catholic High School in 1960. She
graduated from San Diego State College in education. She was
married to William Skates in 1964
In San Luis Obispo, CA.

Her teaching career spanned 40 years in the Azusa Unified School
District at Ellington School. Mrs. Skates was one of those teachers
who inspired learning and had extra care for students who
needed more attention. She taught all grades but especially liked
4th and 5th grades. She will be remembered for influencing
generations of families in the San Gabriel Valley.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother (2012)

Johnson (1-21-21) Las Vegas NV; her brother Paul Brian Johnson
(2-20) Grover Beach, CA. her brother-in-law, Dr. Jack Bradt (WI) (2013)
She is survived by her son, Thomas Arthur Skates, her sisters:
Carolyn Moynihan-Bradt (Madison, WI), Kathryn
Lopez (Louis) (Grover Beach, CA), Janice Johnson (Ventura CA)
