Phyllis Camarena

Felicitás (Phyllis) Maria Camarena, Also known as “Chita”, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on July 31, 2018. She is survived by her daughters JoAnn, Lucy, Patty and Elena. Her siblings Cecelia, Gabriel, Gilbert, Ernie, Rosie, and Jenny

Phyllis was born January 14, 1927 in Azusa, California to Juan and Casimira Camarena and was 1 of 16 Children. She grew up in Azusa and often went to Sacramento to find work, from picking fruit to working in packing houses. She married Joe Mantano when she was 21 and they had 3 daughters. JoAnn, Lucy, and Patty.  In 1958 she married Tim Hernandez whom together they had Elena , as well as taking in Tim’s daughter Lana and son Raymond  as her own. Some time after she met and lived with the love of her life Ed Wegman, they lived happily together for 30+ years. Through her children she left a legacy of 16 Grandchildren, 49 Great-Grandchildren, and 8 1/2 Great Great-Grandchildren. She loved God and was a faithful member of Saint Francis of Rome Church. In the latter years of her life, she enjoyed the company of family and friends who were constantly surrounding her. She was always very lively and fun-loving and enjoyed dancing, singing, and spending time with her family.
