Tomasita "Tommie" Martinez

Tomasita (Tommie) Saiz was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 22, 1926.   Her parents and siblings lived in Albuquerque for many years. As a young lady, she moved to Los Angeles, where she met Benjamin Martinez.  They were married in 1947 and had three children Mary, Michael and Randy. At the age of 21, Michael serving in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam war passed away while serving his country.  Mary had two children, Debbie and Christina. Randy remained a faithful son to his parents. Tommie was a homemaker that took care of her children and many other children as well. Her husband and the love of her life Benny died in 2013. A year later her granddaughter Christina came to take care of her from Utah. Tommie loved her house and loved her neighbors, often saying they were the best neighbors anyone could ever ask for, many of whom she considered family. In 2020 she was diagnosed with the beginning stages of dementia. She was very strong and feisty and was determined to live her life to the fullest regardless. Doing yardwork and picking fruit from the neighbors trees up until three months before she passed. For eight years, she cared for Benjee who is the second love of her life. He was her absolute favorite puppy whom she hand fed food with a fork every single day. For almost two years Zoey, her other favorite puppy whom she called Oozy came into her life. They both kept her company and stood by her side until the very end. In December 2023, she was admitted into hospice care after finding out that she was experiencing heart failure symptoms. After this, her condition rapidly declined. She was able to stay in her home until the last day being cared for and watched 24 hours a day seven days a week by her granddaughters, Christina and Clarissa. Over the last few months of her life her dementia increasingly got worse, resulting in her being unable to walk, swallow, or eat. On Easter Sunday while surrounded by some of her family, she took her last breath the way she wanted in her home in her bed no longer suffering.

She is survived by her children, Mary and Randy, her granddaughters, Debbie, Christina and adopted granddaughter Clarissa, her great grandchildren Marlene, Melissa, Michael, and the twins Ashley and Sarah. Great great grandchildren Serj, Issac, Maddie, Axl and DeShawn. Son in law Luis. Grandson in law Carlos. As well as many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends. 

 At the age of 97 Tommie lived a very long life. Full of love, laughter, family, friends, and the Lord.
